Industrial Braided Washer Fill Hose

I guess it's obvious that you will need two hoses: one for hot and one for cold.  This product uses a high quality nylon-shielded hose that 'performs better than stainless steel'.

It is suggested that washing machine hoses be replaced every 5 years to reduce sudden bursting of old hoses causing damage to your home.  Murphy's Law says it will happen when you are out of the house...

Braided Stainless Steel Toilet Water Supply Hose

Toilets have the same problem as clothes washers  - their supply hoses get old and burst suddenly.

This hose from Amazon has metal reinforcing to reduce the chance of sudden bursting.

Water Heater Earthquake Strap

Unsecured water heaters can tear away from the wall causing both gas leaks and water leaks.  Both are bad because they lead to claims that are worse than they need to be.

If you have an older home with old thin straps, consider a new and modern update.  They are easy to install.

Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm

When we moved into our home, one of the first things I did was replace the old smoke detector with a combo Carbon Monoxide / Fire / Smoke detector.  Just a little more money gives extra safety for my family.  And it talks, too!

The unit pictured at the left is rated 4.2 stars after 411 reviews.

Fire Extinguisher

Depending on the size of your home, it may be a good idea to have several fire extinguishers.  Consider one for the kitchen, garage, and one for each level of your house.

Don't forget to check the gauge annually on each extinguisher!

Earthquake Gas Shutoff Valve

Check with a licensed plumber to make sure this specific product is right for you.

A seismic gas shut off valve prevents gas from continuing to flow after an earthquake, thus reducing the chances of fire destroying your possessions.

Installing this device can also help an older home qualify for less expensive insurance programs with some companies.
